ABM College’s online Addictions and Community Service Worker diploma program develops your knowledge of addiction, treatment planning, relapse prevention and recovery as you support individuals facing physical, mental health and addiction challenges. You will learn to interview clients to assess their strengths and needs to create a supportive plan that will help them achieve their individual life goals. A field-related practicum in a real-world work environment provides valuable experience and insight that helps you explore career opportunities with confidence.

Throughout the program, you will develop a knowledge of psychology terminology and concepts, learn about relapse skills and prevention, build strong interview and counselling skills, and learn to better understand trauma and the hereditary and psychological factors that may influence addiction. You will also gain a deeper understanding of the unique experiences of vulnerable populations to better serve their communities, including First Nations, seniors, LGBTQ+ community members, and persons with disabilities. Upon graduation, you will be prepared to pursue a career path in social service agencies, mental health agencies, group homes, substance abuse centres and more.
